One new moon my sister and my neice joined me for a little moon ritual. We each wrote down things we wanted to release or leave behind, and things we wanted to see manifested in our lives.
Whilst as adults me and my sister wrote things that were focused on the future, my 4 year old niece was so present with her thoughts. The thing she wanted to leave behind was 'corona' and the thing she wanted was 'painting'. A couple of days later when I saw her, she had been painting and when I reminded her of her wishes she was elated, as though she had just realised she made magic.
We as adults so easily dismiss childrens words or thoughts as simplistic and therefore meaningless, but maybe that is how it is supposed to be. There is so much negativity and stress in adulthood, and why? Because we overthink everything, we project ourselves so far into the future that we miss what is happening right in front of us.
I believe we have so much to learn from children. Their ability to be so completely present is something we lose as we go into adulthood. We are constantly taught to think about our future and work towards x, y and z. No one teaches us to hold on to that presence. Then a lot of us spend most of our adult lives trying to learn how to be present, or I like to say, RE-member how to be. That is where inner child work comes in. Our path to freedom and joy comes through learning how to be a child again. How to not take life so seriously, and to really live in the moment. I think many of us as adults forget that we once were children. We once knew that simple joy and complete feeling of awe about life.
So if there are children in your life, spend time with them. Learn their ways once again, and see how the joy that lights them up is still within you. Somewhere deep down, it's there, just waiting for you to really live your joy the way you were always supposed to.
