The new moon in Virgo fell just before Mercury went into retrograde and this new moon in Libra arrives just a few days before Mercury changes course once again, and stations direct. This connection is synchronistic because both of these new moons carry the numerology of number 5, representing change and necessary shifts.
Under the Virgo new moon change was set in motion and we entered a new cycle within our lives. This was a time for us to notice what was working and what wasn't, then take action and do things differently. And now we're asked to reflect back to this idea, to understand that we cannot keep using the same outdated approach and expecting different results.
As Mercury took it's retrograde journey through the sign of Libra, we have been travelling through this prominent theme of balance and harmony, also highlighted by the equinox. This theme will continue of course as we navigate our way through Libra season itself, as we wrap up the lessons of Mercury retrograde and integrate the knowledge that we gained, in our relationships and how we respond to the world around us.
The Virgo moon wanted us to connect with that earthy energy and ground into presence so that we would remain open to the wisdom we would gain through the shifting energies. Bringing the element of air, this Libra new moon signifies a kind of completion point or actualisation, as we transcend to higher levels of perceptual understanding about our experiences. In effect we are transitioning from a root or physical understanding to a more spiritual or expansive understanding.
It is this level of consciousness that allows us to see things differently and see beyond our own ideals of what is fair and just, to instead see a greater purpose for all things. When we can embody this way of thinking, we naturally create more balance and harmony in our lives as we gradually surrender more and more to it's unfolding.
You may well notice that your perspective takes a huge turn in the lead up to this new moon, so try to roll with it and let go of the old thoughts and attachments.
This is an important time to be open and put down the defences. Libras are known for their ability to be brutally honest, but they are also known for how well they change themselves to match the energy of others. In their quest for equlibrium they can often slip into becoming mirrors of those around them, rather than being their authentic selves. This is mostly, I believe, because they have a strong character which can often be perceived as dominating.
So under this new moon we are called to acknowledge the brutal truth and take the final call to make the changes that need to happen, particularly regarding relationships.
In terms of intention setting under this new moon, it's the perfect time to focus on that idea of harmony. How can you cultivate more balance within your life? What needs to go and what needs to be invited in for you to feel truly centred? What do you need to let go of, to make space for the new? Arriving just after the equinox, this moon also marks the start of a new season and therefore, a new cycle, in more than one sense. There may be lots to think about, but try not to give in to the indecisiveness that Libra is well known for. Instead be confident that you've had the lessons and are ready for the next stage of your journey.
